TOKYO, Japan, April 19, 2010 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced it will discontinue production of the 4-door Civic Type R at the end of August, 2010. A purist’s sports car featuring precisely tuned vehicle dynamics, the Civic Type R creates a unity between car and driver for exceptional driving pleasure. The first-generation model launched in 1997 and was produced at Suzuka Factory. The second-generation model following in 2001, was produced at Honda of the U.K. Manufacturing Ltd.* For the current, third-generation Civic Type R that was released in 2007, the production has returned to Suzuka Factory.
Type R models are specially tuned to take full advantage of the potential of the base model and provide a racing car-like driving feel. First offered on the NSX in 1992, the Type R range was added to the Integra in 1995 and to the Civic in 1997.

The Type R saw off all opposition to become the biggest-selling 3-door hatchback in the UK

Honda’s latest Civic Type R has become the biggest-selling hatchback in the UK, it was revealed today.

From its launch in March 2007 to the end of February this year, a total of 5,192 customers purchased this particular model, putting it ahead of the Ford Focus, its nearest competitor.

To achieve this, Honda introduced the GT line, fitted with a more refined, high-spec cabin. To say this was a successful move would be an understatement, with 90 per cent of the range’s sales being made up of the GT line.

Long-term owners will be pleased to hear the residual value of the Civic Type R GT is an impressive 52 per cent, comparing favourably with the Focus ST (40 per cent) and the Golf GTi (43 per cent).

The industry has recognised the achievement and popularity of the Type R – it was voted Top Gear magazine’s Hot Hatch of the Year and scooped the same award in Auto Express’s New Car honours list.

Dyno of fd1a turbo

Did a dyno on low boost of 0.38bar boost few days back.
A hp of 175bhp and 225torque was produced at engine.
The result was pretty good for me when running at such a boost,
fuel consumption is good and power is there for daily driving.

Successful did a 400km roadtrip.
Average speed of 150km/hr & topspeed of 210km/hr
No problem at all.

FC result for turbo R18

As long as you have increased power, your car will be
lesser fuel efficient.

However after 2 months of testing. I still feel the fuel consumption
is still pretty reasonable.

Here are some results for reference.
Refuelling of 11 x of gasoline.
I managed to get a FC of around 10.3KM/litre for my turbo R18.
60% highway 40% street.

Status of car: No breakdown or sign of illness at moment.

How many Hardcore civic fd on Singapore road?
Based on information collected from garages.
There are around 3 turbo charged civic FD on the road as on 2th Jan2008.
2 Fd2 & 1Fd1. There is also one FD2 with K24 in process!!!! This one is real hardcore.
I have also seen a turbo charged RN6 stream.
The JDM CTR are even one big branch of hardcore people.
Stoker kits! 2.2litre...
Guess we seldom see them on road as they only lurk late in the nite
or in motorsports events. Salute!

So by boosting 0.5 bar. It is running at 7.25psi
0.4 bar = 5.8psi
0.7 bar= 10psi

I like how it is explained on boosting a NA car from the 8thgencivic forum by highrev1.
"If I had to put a mileage on it, I'd say 5 psi won't affect longevity much. 8 psi may reduce it a bit, and 10 psi will be even more than 8. So, if you get 300k out of a N/A honda engine, then 5 psi might give you 280k. 8 psi might give you 240k. 10 psi might only give you 180k."

Not sure if its stable but low boost
will be a safe bet.

The K20 compression is very high but if you don't push your car all the time, the engine should be able to handle up to about 10 pounds(psi) of boosts without breaking down .. 10 PSI = 0.689 BAR at 0 FT Above Sea Level. Understanding from some local garage 8psi or / 0.55bar is still a safe bet against engine blow.

Want to improve the handling of your civic?
A value for money improvements will be installing of strut bars, antiroll bars.
So wat are the brands available for the jdm civics?
You can get
1) Cusco
2)Ultra Racing Malaysia

3)Summit from Taiwan - orange color
4) Alutec from Taiwan - silver color

I guess all these bars are pretty decent and value for money in improving
your handling.
But how does the anti roll bar work???
Anti roll bar is also knowed as anti-sway bars or stabilizing bar. Their purpose in life is to try to keep the car's body from "rolling" in a sharp turn.
Think about what happens to a car in a sharp turn. If you are inside the car, you know that your body gets pulled toward the outside of the turn. The same thing is happening to all the parts of the car. So the part of the car on the outside of the turn gets pushed down toward the road and the part of the car on the inside of the turn rises up. In other words, the body of the car "rolls" 10 or 20 or 30 degrees toward the outside of the turn. If you take a turn fast enough, the tires on the inside of the turn actually rise off the road and the car flips over. Roll is bad. Turbo charge a JDM R18 FD civic?
Currently there are 3 kits that i am aware of.
1. Zage Kit
2. AJP Kit
3. Speedlab Kit??

The latter, i am not so sure if its stable.

So which kit will i recommend for the R18?
I am a supporter of Japanese after market parts.
After all our civic are made in japan.

In my case i will go for the Zage Kit with some customisations to
the pipings to suit your engine bay.
The reason? Although Zage turbo kit is made in Taiwan,
it was tested and dyno tuned in conjunction with HKS Taiwan.
HKS is one of leader in japanese motorsports specialising in
turbo charged cars.

The Honda Civic 8th Gen was released in 2006. The USDM has the sedan, coupe, sedan Si, coupe Si in 1.8 litre & 2.0litre versions. In Taiwan, they have the left hand drive 1.8litre JDM civic which only comes in automatics. There are also the Euro type R and JDM Type R that was released in 2007.

What does those short forms FD FN .... means..
